We are only five days away from the start of the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. Because there are just five days until the Daytona 500, we will take a look at the history of the No. 5 car in the top-level of NASCAR.

To this day, the most successful driver to pilot the number in NASCAR happens to be Terry Labonte as he won twelve races, earned 64 top-fives and 125 top-tens and earned seven poles in 368 races behind the wheel of the No. 5.

Other drivers who have piloted the No. 5 in the top-level of NASCAR include Geoff Bodine, Ricky Rudd, Mark Martin, Kyle Busch, Neil Bonnett, Casey Mears and Billy Wade.

Overall the No. 5 has been in 1,385 races, and in that time has visited victory lane on 41 occasions, accumulated 273 top-fives and 520 top-tens, led 13,256 laps and logged 349,602 laps in the top-level of NASCAR.

Kasey Kahne drove the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet to two wins and a fourth place finish in the points standings in 2013. Kahne, 32, is back behind the wheel of the No. 5 in 2013 where it could be his biggest season of his career.
